Photovoltaic modules are fixed on sloping roofs to roof structures (31) made of roof rafters (4) and roof laths (5) with fixing devices (1) which penetrate through the roof covering (3) as rigid roof hooks. In addition, the roofing tiles (6) must be reworked, as a result of which guarantees are voided and the roof covering (3) is endangered by compressive forces in the event of wind and snow loads. To avoid these disadvantages, in the case of the solution according to the invention, the rigid roof hooks are replaced by flexible retaining elements (24), e.g. ropes (10) or flat strips (22). They are likewise fixed to the roof structure (31), but are guided through between the roofing tiles (6) and fixed directly to the frame of the photovoltaic modules (2) or fixed thereto via rail systems. Advantages compared to the roof hook solution are a faster and easier finishing of the fixing device (1) and the elimination of the post processing of the roofing tiles (6) and therefore the elimination of possible endangerment of people. The roof covering (3) remains undisturbed and the guarantee remains intact. The forces arising in the process act parallel to the roof covering (3) and damage thereto by compressive forces in the event of wind and snow loads that occur is therefore prevented. If flexible retaining elements (24) are used with changed force introduction, the fixing device (1) can be configured in a material saving and cost effective manner.
