The present invention provides a fluid extraction device which enables the removal of fluids from a container. The fluid extraction device may potentially minimise the contact between the fluid and the operator attempting to remove the fluid. The fluid extraction device comprises a hollow elongated member through which a fluid is capable of movement; an interconnecting means operatively associated with a first end of the elongated member enabling the attachment of other devices to the fluid extraction device; a retaining means attached to the elongated member for holding the fluid extraction device at a desired position with respect to the container and a filtration mechanism operatively associated with the elongated member for limiting the transfer of particular elements from the container. The retaining means may be positioned at various locations along the length of the hollow elongated member as such that the interconnecting means are removed from the fluid. Once the fluid extraction device is positioned in a container, the fluid may them be removed by connecting a hose to the interconnecting means and activating a pump thereby transferring the fluid from the container to an alternate location.
