ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method of friction surfacing in which relative movement is caused between a consumable (5) and the surface of a substrate (6) which are urged together while undergoing heat-generating movement whereby material of the consumable is caused to be laid down on a surface of the substrate. The consumable (5) is offered to the substrate (6) in such a manner that the urging action and relative transverse movement are caused by applying force in a single or opposed directions.
