The barrier layer of the invention may be formed of a sheet-like polymeric material, a metal foil or a polymeric coating formed In situ the ball or a substructure of the ball. The moisture barrier prevents the transmission of water vapor at a rate of more than 0.5 g of water per mil/100 in2 per day according to ASTM D-96.
