A novel glass composition capable of emitting fluorescence derived from bismuth (Bi) and improved in meltability. There is provided a glass composition comprising bismuth oxide, Al2O3 and SiO2, the SiO2 being a main component of glass network forming oxides, the glass composition further comprising at least one oxide selected from among TiO2, GeO2, P2O5 and B2O3, wherein the total content of components consisting of SiO2 and the at least one oxide plus Y2O3 and lanthanide oxides is > 80 mol%. The bismuth contained in the bismuth oxide functions as a luminescent species, and the glass composition emits fluorescence in the infrared wavelength region when exposed to excitation light.

La présente invention concerne une nouvelle composition de verre capable d~émettre une fluorescence dérivée du bismuth (Bi) et présentant de meilleures caractéristiques de fusion. Elle concerne en outre une composition de verre comprenant de l'oxyde de bismuth, Al2O3 et SiO2, le SiO2 étant un composant principal des oxydes formant le réseau vitreux, la composition de verre comprenant en outre au moins un oxyde sélectionné parmi TiO2, GeO2, P2O5 and B2O3, la teneur totale en composants consistant en SiO2 et au moins un oxyde plus Y2O3 et des oxydes de lanthanide sont > 80 % molaire. Le bismuth présent dans l~oxyde de bismuth agit en tant qu'espèce luminescente, et la composition de verre émet une fluorescence dans la région des longueurs d~onde infrarouge une fois exposée à une lumière d~excitation.
