Abstract of the Disclosure There are described a method for making an agglomerated composition for use in glassmaking, an apparatus for the performance of this method and new products which contain particles in which granules of sand, and optionally also of other glassmaking constituents, are agglomerated. This divisional application is particularly directed to a product comprising silica-containing particles coated with an alkali metal silicate and particles of at least one other glass-forming constituent, the product being agglomerated and having an apparent density from 1.0 to 1.1 g/cc as compared with the conventional 1.5 of the prior art. The product of this invention contains less than 2% of fines having a diameter of 0.125 mm or less. The low apparent density and the low proportion of fines make the product easy to fluidize if needed in the glassmaking process.
