A hermetically sealed glass package (100) and method (200) for manufacturing the hermetically sealed glass package (100) are described herein using an OLED display as an example. Basically, the hermetically sealed OLED display (100) is manufactured by providing (step 202) a first substrate plate (102) and a second substrate plate (107) and depositing (step 208) a frit (106) onto the second substrate plate (107). OLEDs (104) are deposited (step 206) on the first substrate plate (102). An irradiation source (110)(e.g., laser, infrared light) is then used to heat (step 212) the frit (106) which melts and forms a hermetic seal (108) that connects the first substrate plate (102) to the second substrate plate (107) and also protects the OLEDs (104). The frit (106) is glass that was doped with at least one transition metal and possibly a CTE lowering filler such that when the irradiation source (110) heats the frit, it softens and forms a bond. This enables the frit (106) to melt and form the hermetic seal (108) while avoiding thermal damage to the OLEDs (104).

L'invention concerne une emballage en verre (100) hermétiquement fermé et un procédé (200) permettant de le fabriquer illustrés par un afficheur diode électroluminescente organique (OLED). Fondamentalement, on fabrique un afficheur OLED (100) hermétiquement fermé en mettant en place (étape 202) une première plaque de substrat (102) et d'une seconde plaque de substrat (107) et on dépose (étape 208) une fritte (106) sur la seconde plaque de substrat (107). Les OLED (104) sont déposées (étape 206) sur la première plaque de substrat (102). Une source de rayonnement (110) (par exemple laser, lumière infrarouge) est ensuite utilisée pour chauffer (étape 212) la fritte (106) qui fond et forme un joint hermétique (108) reliant la première plaque de substrat (102) à la seconde plaque de substrat (107) et protégeant les OLED (104). La fritte (106) est du verre qui a été dopé avec au moins un métal de transition et éventuellement une charge d'abaissement des coefficients de dilatation thermique (CTE) de sorte que lorsque la source de rayonnement (110) chauffe la fritte, celle-ci se ramollit et forme un liant, ce qui permet à la fritte (106) de fondre et de former un joint hermétique (108) sans endommager les OLED (104).
