An antenna structure including a ground plane (12) that provides a good front to back ratio while maintaining a small size and which can mechanically be made to fit into tight areas. The antenna structure may be a GPS patch antenna (10), or any other antenna adapted to receive broadcast signals. The ground plane (12) is made from radar absorbing material (14, RAM) in electrical contact with conductive radials (16). The RAM (14) inherently acts to suppress surface currents on the ground plane (12), which in turn reduces back signals. Although RAM (14) has some resistance, it is low enough such that the electrical effect of the radials (16) is extended through the RAM (14), essentially simulating a "solid" conductive disk. Both the RAM (14) and radials (16) may be made from light and flexible material, and consequently may be adapted for use in a variety of applications.

La présente invention concerne une structure d'antenne comprenant un plan de sol (12) qui permet d'obtenir un bon rapport avant/arrière, tout en conservant une taille réduite, et qui, mécaniquement, peut être installée dans des endroits exigus. La structure d'antenne peut constituer une antenne à plaque GPS (10), ou tout autre antenne apte à recevoir une signal de radiodiffusion. Le plan de sol (12) est constitué de matériau absorbant les ondes radar (14, MAR) en contact électrique avec des conducteurs radiaux (16). Le MAR (14) agit de manière inhérente comme suppresseur de courants de surface sur le plan de sol (12), qui en retour atténue des signaux de retour. Bien que le MAR (14) présente une certaine résistance, cette résistance est assez faible en sorte que les effets électriques des conducteurs radiaux (16) s'étendent à travers le MAR (14), simulant ainsi essentiellement un disque conducteur <= solide >=. A la fois le MAR (14) et les conducteurs radiaux (16) peuvent être constitués de matériau souple et léger, ce qui leur permet d'être utilisés dans de nombreuses applications.
