The present invention relates to the modification of butyl elastomers, particularly halobutyl elastomers, under solvent free conditions with a phase transfer catalyst, particularly tetrabutyammonium bromide or trioctylmethylammonium chloride, in the presence of an alkyl metal salt of an oxygen or sulfur-based nucleophile. Suitable nucleophiles for use in the present invention include metal salts of tert-butylacetic acid, stearic acid, benzoic acid, 4-(dimethylamino)benzoic acid, antrancene-9- carboxylic acid, linoleic acid or mixture thereof, which are prepared by neutralization with an appropriate hydroxide base.

La présente invention concerne la modification d~élastomères de type butyle, en particulier d~élastomères halogénobutyle, dans des conditions sans solvant avec un catalyseur de transfert de phase, en particulier le bromure de tétrabutylammonium ou le chlorure de trioctylméthylammonium, en présence d'un sel d~alkylmétal d'un nucléophile à base d~oxygène ou de soufre. Les nucléophiles appropriés pour un usage dans la présente invention comprennent des sels métalliques d'acide tert-butylacétique, d'acide stéarique, d'acide benzoïque, d'acide 4-(diméthylamino)benzoïque, d'acide antrancène-9-carboxylique, d'acide linoléique ou de leur mélange, lesquels sont préparés par neutralisation avec une base appropriée de type hydroxyde.
