A hand protector which can be used in various activities, especially in sports where a stick or the like is required to be held by the players, e.g. hockey, lacrosse. The hand protector comprises a shell made of shock-absorbing material possibly covered by a resistant protective sheet material and defining a hollow chamber sized to house freely and to protect the player's hand, wrist and forearm. An upper protective flap of construction similar to the shell is hinged to the upper part of the shell, and a supple inner glove provided in the shell is attached at its wrist portion to the inside of the shell and at its finger portions to the upper flap. When the player grips the stick an elongated aperture is defined between the shell and the upper flap with the stick extending therethrough. The flap can be pivoted by the player having his hand inserted in the inner glove between an extended position which allows for the stick to be inserted/removed in/from the aperture and a retracted position where the stick is held by the player and where the player's hand is concealed within the shell and beneath the upper flap.
