An apparatus and method of effecting hand-off of a mobile station (104) in a first wireless communication system, which has a first mobile switching node (204) operable with a first base station (208) and a second mobile switching node (220) operable with a second base station (224), and a second wireless communication system, is claimed. A handoff required message (404) is received at the first mobile switching node (204) and sent (408) to a second mobile switching node (220). A message (412) from the second mobile switching node is sent to request allocation for a handoff. In an embodiment, this message (412) is sent to the VLR of the second wireless communication system. In response, a handoff request acknowledge message (428) is received by the second mobile switching node (220) and sent to the first mobile switching node (204). An initial address message (432) is sent to initiate a circuit connection between the first mobile switching node (204) and the second mobile switching node (220). Then, the call is received from the first mobile switching node (204).

L'invention concerne un appareil et un procédé permettant de réaliser un transfert d'une station mobile dans un premier système de communication radio qui comprend un premier noeud de commutation mobile fonctionnant avec une première station de base et un second noeud de commutation mobile fonctionnant avec une seconde station de base, et un second système de communication radio. Un message requis de transfert est reçu au niveau du premier noeud de commutation mobile et, puis, il est envoyé à un second noeud de commutation mobile. Un message provenant du second noeud de commutation mobile est envoyé à une attribution de demandes en vue d'un transfert. Dans un mode de réalisation, ce message est envoyé au VLR du second système de communication. En réponse, un message de reconnaissance de demande de transfert est reçu par le second noeud de commutation mobile et, puis, il est envoyé au premier noeud de commutation mobile. Un message d'adresse initial est envoyé pour initier une connexion de circuits entre le premier noeud de commutation mobile et le second noeud de commutation mobile. Ensuite, l'appel est reçu à partir du premier noeud de commutation mobile.
