The transparent, hard, scratch-resistant, amorphous, easily washed coating on a transparent substrate, together with a method for its preparation. A substrate such as glass is introduced into a magnetron sputtering chamber, silicon is sputtered in an atmosphere of nitrogen and a hydrocarbon gas to produce on the substrate a film containing a carbide and a nitride of silicon. The film has a thickness in the range of about 30.ANG. to about 500.ANG., and its surface exhibits a contact angle with water below about 25°. The protective coating may be applied directly to a transparent substrate such as glass, or may be applied as a protective coating over an optical film stack carried by the substrate. If desired, a glass substrate may be coated on one side with the optical film stack and on the reverse side with the protective coating.
La présente invention concerne, d'une part un revêtement transparent, dur, anti-eraflures, amorphe, lavable appliqué sur un substrat transparent, et d'autre part le procédé d'élaboration correspondant. Le procédé consiste à prendre un substrat, notamment en verre, et à l'introduire dans une chambre de pulvérisation magnétron, puis à pulvériser le silicium dans une atmosphère d'azote et de gaz d'hydrocarbure de façon à obtenir sur le substrat un film contenant un carbure et un nitrure de silicium. L'épaisseur du film se situe entre environ 30 ANGSTROM et environ 500 ANGSTROM , et sa surface présente un angle de contact avec l'eau inférieur à environ 25 DEG . Ce revêtement peut s'appliquer directement sur un substrat transparent tel que le verre. Mais il peut également s'appliquer comme revêtement de protection sur un empilement de films optiques porté par le substrat. Le cas échéant, un substrat de verre peut être revêtu sur une face de l'empilement de films optiques, et sur l'autre face du revêtement protecteur.
