High molecular weight .gamma.-PGA is provided. The .gamma.-PGA is separated from cells of the .gamma.-PGA producing cell culture after first adjusting the pH of the cell-culture to a pH of less than about 3. Also, the viscosity of a .gamma.-PGA solution is increased by removing metal ions with a chelator. In addition, .gamma.-PGA is fractionated directly from a cell culture, such that the fractionated .gamma.-PGA has low polydispersity. Purified .gamma.-PGA is produced having a molecular weight of at least 2.5 x 106.
L'invention concerne un .gamma.-PGA à masse moléculaire élevée. On sépare le .gamma.-PGA des cellules d'une culture de cellules productrice de .gamma.-PGA après avoir réglé le pH de la culture cellulaire à un niveau inférieur à 3 environ. De plus on augmente la viscosité de la solution .gamma.-PGA par le retrait d'ions métallique à l'aide d'un chélateur. Le .gamma.-PGA est en outre séparé par fractionnement directement dans une culture cellulaire de manière que ce .gamma.-PGA fractionné présente une faible polydispersité. On obtient ainsi un .gamma.-PGA purifié présentant une masse moléculaire d'au moins 2,5 x 10?6¿.
