Composition and process for the preparation of high temperature stable continuous glass ceramic fibers with an upper temperature use limit of 2300 ~F, in mole percent, is 62-85 % SiO2, 10-20 % Al2O3, 5-15 % MgO, 0.5-5 % TiOx, and 0-5 % ZrO2. The continuous fibers are prepared by an economical direct melt method, and demonstrate high tensile strength, high Young's modulus, and low linear thermal shrinkage characteristics.

On décrit une composition et un procédé de fabrication de fibres continues en vitrocéramique, stables à haute température, avec une limite supérieure d'utilisation de 2300 ~F. La composition de ces fibres est en pourcent en mole de 62-85 % de SiO¿2?, 10-20 % de Al¿2?O¿3?, 5-15 % de MgO, 0,5-5 % de TiO¿x? et 0-5 % de ZrO¿2?. Les fibres continues sont obtenues par un procédé économique à fusion directe, et présentent une résistance élevée à la traction, un module de Young élevé et un retrait thermique linéaire faible.
