ABSTRACT HOOKS FOR ATTACHING UTILITY RACKS TO VEHICLES A hook for attaching utility racks to vehicles, such as cars, includes a one-piece body defining a U-shaped recess adapted to be positioned over a frame part of the car having the shape of a thin ledge. For instance, the hook can be mounted to the sill of the roof of the vehicle after having removed therefrom the door gasket. The hook is maintained permanently secured to the vehicle by repositioning the gasket over the assembly of the hook with the roof sill. The hook also defines a pair of spaced apart inverted U-shaped retaining members which extend above the gasket and which are adapted to receive the T-shaped end of a link extending between the hook and the steel strap of the utility rack. The link is chosen in accordance with the vehicle and a protective accordion sleeve is provided over the steel strap and the adjustable link right up to the retaining members of the hook. Therefore, the hook remains permanently attached to the vehicle and the utility rack can be mounted to the vehicle by engaging the T-shaped end of the link to the retaining members of the hook.
