ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Hydrazone compounds having the general formula Image wherein R is selected from the group consisting of a methyl group and a benzyl group, which can be prepared by allowing 9-ethylcarbazole-3-aldehyde represented by the formula Image to condense with 1-substituted phenylhydrazines represented by the general formula Image wherein R is selected from the group consisting of a methyl group and a benzyl group, at an equal molar ratio or with said hydrazine compounds being slightly in excess in quantity in comparison with said aldehydes in an organic solvent in the presence of an acid catalyst. The hydrazone compounds are extremely useful as charge transport materials for use in electrophotographic photoconductors of the type comprising an electroconductive support material and a photosensitive layer containing a charge generation material and a charge transport material.
