A contact lens solution comprising 0.0001 to 10 weight percent or a preservative enhancer chosen from the group consisting of: inositol; mannitol; sorbitol; sucrose; dextrose; glycerin and propylene glycol; and at least 0.0001 weight percent of a cationic polymeric preservative, and where the concentration of chloride in said solution is less than 0.2 percent by weight.
