An improved process calcining a gypsum/cellulosic fiber slurry to produce a composite gypsum/cellulosic fiber product resides in adding a selected crystal modifier to the gypsum/cellulosic fiber slurry prior to the heating step to reduce the time necessary to carry out the calcination process, to reduce the temperature at which the calcination process is run or to increase the aspect ratio of the acicular calcium sulfate alpha hemihydrate crystals formed during the calcination process. Useful crystal modifiers include aluminum sulfate, aluminum chloride, chlorine, zinc sulfate, iron (III) sulfate, aluminum sulfate hexadecahydrate, iron (II) sulfate heptahydrate, iron (III) sulfate pentahydrate, zinc sulfate heptahydrate, copper sulfate pentahydrate, copper chloride dehydrate, manganese sulfate monohydrate and trisodium phosphate.
Procédé amélioré de calcination d'une suspension de gypse/fibres cellulosiques permettant d'obtenir un produit composite de gypse/fibres cellulosiques. Ce procédé consiste à ajouter un agent modificateur de cristal à la suspension de gypse/fibres cellulosique avant l'opération de chauffage de manière à réduire le temps nécessaire pour le processus de calcination, à réduire la température de l'opération de calcination ou à augmenter le rapport hauteur/largeur des cristaux de sulfate de calcium alpha hémihydrate formés pendant le processus de calcination. Agents modificateurs de cristal utiles : sulfate d'aluminium, chlorure d'aluminium, chlore, sulfate de zinc, sulfate de fer (III). hexadécahydrate de sulfate d'aluminium, heptahydrate de sulfate de fer (II), pentahydrate de sulfate de fer (III), heptahydrate de sulfate de zinc, pentahydrate de sulfate de cuivre, déhydrate de chlorure de cuivre, monohydrate de sulfate de manganèse et phosphate trisodique.
