A device for converting a mid- wave infrared or long-wave infrared ther- mal image into a coherent near-infrared image includes a two-dimensional array of quantum-well-based optical modulators (500) and infrared photodetectors (100). Each modulator is integrated or hybridized with a respective photodetector, and the combination is connected to an electronic circuit. Variations in mid-IR or long-IR light intensity are converted by each pho- todetector into variations in a bias applied to its respective modulator. The bias vari- ations modulate the intensity and/or phase of near-IR light illuminating the modula- tors.

Un dispositif permettant de convertir une image infrarouge de moyenne ou grande longueur d'onde en une image proche infrarouge cohérente comprend un réseau bidimensionnel de modulateurs (500) de type puits quantique et de photodétecteurs (100) infrarouges. Chaque modulateur est intégré ou hybridisé avec le photodétecteur correspondant, et cet ensemble est relié à un circuit électrique. Les variations d'intensité de la lumière infrarouge à moyenne ou grande longueur d'onde sont converties par chaque photodétecteur en variations dans une polarisation appliquée à chaque modulateur correspondant.
