Ion Concentration Measurement System that Employs Measuring and Reference Field Effect Transistor Electrodes Sensitive to the Same Ion Abstract A system is provided for measuring the ion concentration within a liquid. This electrical measuring system employs ion-sensitive field effect transistor components or transducers, known as ISFET components, both as the measuring electrode component and as the reference electrode component, each ISFET component being sensitive to the same ion, such as the hydrogen ion when the ion concentration to be measured is the pH value of the liquid. The reference ISFET electrode component is associated with a structure that provides contact between a rinsing liquid and the reference ISFET electrode components which ringing liquid is of a known and typically constant composition and ion concentration, or pI. Additionally, the measuring ISFET electrode component and the reference ISFET electrode component are electrically connected through a differential circuit.
