ABSTRACT To increase speed in the installation of drywall board (gypsum board) being fastened to ceilings. THE JOHN ROD must be used to hold the drywall board in position allowing the installers to have their hands free to fasten the drywall board. This tool is able to replace the make-shift 2"x4" "T" holders by being able to be used on ceiling installation irregardless of the ceiling heights. It is also light weight and is easily manoeuvred about a construction site. The tool is comprised of three basic components, the "T" holder, the holding mechanism and the final component to THE JOHN ROD is the mount. The holding mechanism allows the "T" holder to raise to varying heights as may be required. Once the height is found the brake lever automatically holds the "T" holder from slipping downward. The installer can lower the "T" holder by lifting upward on the brake lever. The mount can be in two forms. The base form allows THE JOHN ROD to stand freely on the floor. The second form, the scaffold mount, allows THE JOHN ROD to be mounted on a scaffold, for high ceiling installation applications. THE JOHN ROD could also be used on other installation applications such as duct work installations by heating/air conditioning installers. Or by converting the "T" holder the tool could be used as an extention of a stock persons arms for lifting stock to greater heights and by photographers for tri-pods and light stands.
