The disclosed stent (30) is formed of an elongate, flexible duct having a very thin wall, and a preformed diameter, length and shape. The stent is constructed of a woven tubular structure of multiple strands or elements. The woven tubular structure is thermally set to a predetermined diameter and length so that the "at rest" or natural condition of the tubular structure is predictable. A retention or holding member (48) can be formed at one or both of the ends of the stent. This retention member can be reduced in diameter for insertion into the body passage. The woven tubular structure provides a path for fluids to flow in and around the stent, while a patent lumen is being developed. The woven tubular structure allows the stent to be extended or stretched over a guide wire or other non-compressive member, to thereby reduce the diameter of the stent for insertion of the stent into a body passage.
Cet extenseur (30) se compose d'un conduit souple et de forme allongée, à paroi très mince et à diamètre et longueur préformés. Cet extenseur est construit à partir d'une structure tubulaire tissée de multiples brins ou éléments et mise en forme par la chaleur, afin de présenter un diamètre et une longueur déterminés et que l'état naturel ou "au repos" de la structure tubulaire soit prévisible. On peut former un élément de rétention ou de support (48) au niveau de l'une ou des deux extrémités de l'extenseur, et on peut réduire le diamètre de cet élément pour pouvoir l'insérer dans un passage corporel. La structure tubulaire tissée constitue un trajet permettant aux fluides de s'écouler dans et autour de l'extenseur, lors de la réalisation d'une lumière libre, et elle permet d'étendre ou d'étirer l'extenseur sur un fil de guidage ou sur un autre élément non compressif, afin de réduire le diamètre de l'extenseur et pouvoir insérer celui-ci dans un passage corporel.
