A kit for a knockdown chair which includes a backrest and a pair of rear legs in a single plane and a seat frame which extends from the backrest and a pair of front legs which extend downwardly from the extremity of the seat frame. The chair is normally shipped with the seat frame and front legs in a knockdown condition. The seat frame can be assembled by mounting identical frame members forming the side and front frame members, wherein the side and front frame members have lugs adapted to engage slots in the front legs in a wedging manner. At each leg the front member and corresponding side member engage the slots in opposed wedging directions. A seat support is fastened to the frame members by means of screws which lock the frame members and the legs in a tight rigid manner.
