ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A lance for use in treating a bath of molten metal has an elongated refractory body with a metal tube positioned axle thereof so as to extend out of a first end portion and terminate inwardly of a second end portion thereof, a plurality of smaller metal tubes arranged in a circular pattern communicating with said metal tube are positioned in said second end portion and extend therefrom to the exterior thereof which defines the delivery end of said lance, means engaging said first mentioned metal tube extends outwardly of the first end portion by which said lance may be supported, the plurality of smaller metal tubes being surrounded by said refractory body forming a coating there- over of a thickness greater than the diameter of said smaller metal tubes arranged in said circular pattern, at least a portion of each of said smaller metal tubes being formed to define a narrow slot whereby a controlled volume and flow of gas at a known pressure can be discharged thereby.
