An antiretroviral composition for inhibiting the action of reverse transcriptase includes a nucleoside analog containing a six-carbon levo hexose sugar, for example, L-rhamnose or L-fucose. Treatment is achieved by delivering the antiretroviral to the infected system, wherein the reverse transcription process is inhibited via steric hindrance, halting the viral RNA replication. Delivery may be accomplished by conventional methods, such as via oral dosing or injection. Additional delivery methods are also contemplated, including packaging in liposomes and protein targeting. The composition and method are also useful for inhibiting the proliferation of cancer cells by halting the transcription process.
Composition antirétrovirale servant à inhiber l'action de la transcriptase inverse et comprenant un analogue de nucléoside contenant un L-hexose à six atomes de carbone, par exemple, un L-rahmnose ou un L-fucose. On effectue le traitement par administration de cette composition à l'organisme infecté, le processus de transcription inverse étant inhibé par l'intermédiaire d'un empêchement stérique, ce qui arrête la réplication de l'ARN viral. On peut administrer cette composition au moyen des procédés classiques, à savoir par dosage oral ou par injection. L'invention concerne également d'autres procédés d'administration, y compris le conditionnement en liposomes et le ciblage de protéines.
