A liquefied fuel vaporizer employs temperature-sensitive safety switches as back-up safety devices to prevent the vaporizer from overheating. The vaporizer includes a hollow pressure vessel with a liquefied fuel inlet that receives liquefied fuel and a fuel vapor outlet that dispenses fuel vapor. Mounted within the pressure vessel is a heat-conductive core that heats the liquefied fuel to produce the fuel vapor. Mounted within the heat- conductive core are electrically resistive heating elements that heat the heat-conductive core when activated by electrical current. A first temperature sensor senses a temperature of the heat-conductive core and produces a first sensor signal indicative of the temperature. A control system electrically connects the first heating elements to a power supply using a power relay to control the amount of current delivered to the heating elements in response to the sensor signal and thereby controls the temperature of the heater core during normal operations. Each temperature-sensitive safety switch is coupled between at least one of the heating elements and the power relay to electrically disconnect the heating elements from the power supply when the temperature-sensitive safety switch senses that the temperature of the heat-conductive core exceeds a predetermined maximum temperature even if the power relay fails in the closed state. The temperature-sensitive safety switches disconnect the heating elements from the power supply independent of the operation of the control system so that the protection provided is not dependent on the proper functioning of the control system.
