A lobster trap is formed with an entrance tunnel having inclined ramp surfaces designed to guide a lobster into an elevated position above the floor of the trap housing. Each ramp surface terminates in a ledge or cliff, such that the lobster is caused to topple from the ledge downwardly onto the trap housing floor. The elevated location of the ledge prevents the lobster from climbing up onto the ramp surface; the lobster is thus trapped in the housing.

Chaque rampe se termine par un rebord de déversement de façon à provoquer la bascule du homard du rebord vers le plancher du casier. L'emplacement élevé du rebord empêche le homard de remonter sur la rampe; le homard est ainsi emprisonné dans le casier.
