A method of producing magnesium alloy strip, suitable for use in the production of magnesium alloy sheet by rolling reduction and heat treatment, involves casting magnesium alloy as strip, using a twin roll casting installation. In the casting, the thickness and temperature of the strip exiting from between rolls of the installation are controlled whereby the strip has a microstructure characterised by a primary phase having a form selected from deformed dendritic, equiaxed dendritic and a mixture of deformed and equiaxed dendritic forms. The resultant strip is amenable to production of sheet material by application of a homogenizing heat treatment followed by rolling and annealing.
L'invention concerne un procédé de production d'une bande d'alliage de magnésium, adaptée pour être utilisée dans la production d'une feuille en alliage de magnésium par une réduction par laminage et un traitement thermique, lequel procédé consiste à couler l'alliage de magnésium sous la forme d'une bande au moyen d'une installation de coulée entre deux cylindres. Lors de la coulée, l'épaisseur et la température de la bande sortant des cylindres de l'installation sont contrôlées, ladite bande possédant une microstructure caractérisée par une phase primaire ayant une forme sélectionnée parmi des formes dendritiques déformées, dendritiques équiaxiales et un mélange de formes dendritiques déformées et équiaxiales. La bande obtenue peut servir à produire un matériau en feuille par l'application d'un traitement thermique d'homogénéisation, suivi d'un laminage et d'un recuit.
