ABSTRACT An improved apparatus for the conditioning of feed water for boilers and heaters employs a cylinder magnet with an axial hole and is either a permanent magnet or an electro- magnet. A nonmagnetic water conduit fits tightly within the axial hole of the magnet and has a smooth interior to obtain laminar, nonturbulent flow. The magnet is axially magnetized and the geometry and environment are selected to maximize the magnetic flux in the axial hole.
