A method is provided for identifying a contaminant in a gaseous space. The method includes: generating a broadband optical waveform; shaping the optical waveform to match an expected waveform for a known contaminant; and transmitting the shaped optical waveform towards an unknown contaminant. Upon receiving a reflected optical waveform from the unknown contaminant, determining whether the unknown contaminant correlates to the known contaminant based on the reflected waveform.

La présente invention concerne un procédé servant à identifier un agent contaminant dans un espace gazeux. Le procédé consiste à : générer une forme d'ondes optiques à large bande; dimensionner la forme d'ondes optiques pour qu'elle s'adapte à une forme d'onde escomptée destinée à un agent contaminant connu; et transmettre la forme d'ondes optiques dimensionnée vers un agent contaminant inconnu. Lors de la réception d'une forme d'ondes optiques réfléchie depuis un agent contaminant inconnu, le procédé consiste à déterminer si l'agent contaminant inconnu est corrélé à l'agent contaminant connu en fonction de la forme d'ondes réfléchie.
