A material decelerating device for gently slowing seeds and for exhausting air upstream of the outlet of an air delivery system on an agricultural implement. A cyclone type separator is connected directly above a furrow opening device and includes a hollow body with an inlet opening generally tangentially into a cylindrical portion. A material outlet opens downwardly in the axial direction from a funnel- shaped portion tapering radially inwardly in the downstream direction. An opening near the top of the cylindrical portion exhausts air upstream of the material outlet. In one embodiment, a conduit connected to the opening returns exhausted air to a location in the distribution system upstream of the decelerating device.
