The invention concerns a furnace for melting material with high melting point such as glass, comprising a hearth (2) and side walls (3) defining a bath of molten material (5). At least part of the hearth (2) surface, and optionally the side walls (3), which is in contact with the molten material consists of at least one layer (12, 13, 21, 22, 23) comprising refractory material grit (14, 16), in particular with a mineral binder based on oxides or glassy material. The invention is useful for melting glass, in particular cullet containing metal residues and for separating the metal contained in cullet.
