The present invention provides a method for determining the presence or amount of a metal-labelled species in a sample. In the method, the metal of the metal- labelled species in the sample is caused to form a soluble electrochemically- active complex which is then electrochemically measuring to provide an indication of the presence or amount of the metal-labelled species. The soluble electrochemically-active complex is stable relative to moieties present or potentially present in the sample which will form an insoluble and/or electrochemically-inactive complex with the metal. The metal-labelled species may be formed by the binding of an analyte to be detected with a metal- labelled binding partner, such as an antibody or antigen binding fragment thereof.

L'invention concerne un procédé permettant de déterminer la présence ou la quantité d'une espèce marquée par un métal dans un échantillon. Dans ce procédé, on fait en sorte que le métal de l'espèce marquée par un métal dans l'échantillon forme un complexe actif au niveau électrochimique soluble, lequel est ensuite mesuré au niveau électrochimique pour obtenir une indication de la présence ou de la quantité de l'espèce marquée par un métal. Le complexe actif au niveau électrochimique soluble est stable par rapport aux fractions présentes ou potentiellement présentes dans l'échantillon qui forme un complexe insoluble et/ou inactif au niveau électrochimique avec le métal. L'espèce marquée par un métal peut être formée par liaison d'un analyte devant être détecté avec un partenaire de liaison marqué par un métal, tel qu'un fragment de liaison anticorps ou antigène de celui-ci.
