At repeaters or at each individual unit of a distributed antenna system, an auxiliary pilot signal is transmitted in addition to a common base station pilot signal to mobile units. The auxiliary pilot signal is unique to each repeater and each individual unit of the distributed antenna system within a local propagation area. A mobile unit measures the auxiliary pilot signals received from the repeater or distributed antenna units in the same manner it measures those of any base station pilot signal. The location of the mobile unit can be determined using well-known triangulation techniques based on the auxiliary pilot signal measurements.
Selon l'invention, un signal pilote auxiliaire est émis au niveau des répéteurs ou au niveau de chaque unité individuelle d'un système d'antenne distribué, en plus d'un signal pilote de station de base commun, vers des unités mobiles. Ce signal pilote auxiliaire est unique pour chaque répéteur et chaque unité individuelle du système d'antenne distribué, à l'intérieur d'une zone de propagation locale. Une unité mobile mesure les signaux pilotes auxiliaires reçus du répéteur ou d'unités d'antenne distribuées de la même manière que ceux de n'importe quelle station de base. La localisation de l'unité mobile peut être déterminée par l'intermédiaire de techniques de triangulation connues, en fonction des mesures de signaux pilotes auxiliaires.
