A regenerable desiccant filter assembly (10, 110), for use in a vehicle lamp housing (H, 202, 302, 402), includes a hollow body defining a chamber (13) therein, the hollow body (11, 111) having an inlet (15) and an outlet (16) formed therein to allow air to flow from an area outside said hollow body (11) into and through the hollow body. A substrate, which is a nonwoven fiber mat (12), is housed within the hollow body; and a regenerable liquid desiccant composition (18) is distributed on the substrate. Preferably, the fibers (20) making up the substrate have hollow internal cavities (22) formed therein, and extended openings (24) formed in the sides thereof in communication with the internal cavities. Preferably, the desiccant composition is an alkali halide or an alkaline earth halide. Most preferably the desiccant composition is selected from the group consisting of lithium chloride, calcium chloride and magnesium chloride. In specific embodiments, the desiccant filter may be combined with a bulb shield (204, 304) or with a bulb socket member (400). A method of dehydrating air flowing into a ventilation opening (9) in a vehicle lamp housing, using the inventive apparatus, is also disclosed.
L'invention concerne un ensemble filtre déshydratant régénérable (10, 110), destiné à être utilisé dans un boîtier de lampe d'un véhicule (H, 202, 302, 402). Cet ensemble comprend un corps creux définissant une chambre (13), ce corps creux (11, 111) possédant une entrée (15) et une sortie (16) permettant le passage d'air depuis une zone située à l'extérieur de ce corps creux (11) à travers ce corps creux. Un substrat consistant en un mat non-tissé (12) est logé à l'intérieur du corps creux, et une composition déshydratante liquide régénérable (18) est distribuée sur ce substrat. De préférence, les fibres (20) formant ce substrat possèdent des cavités internes creuses (22) et de grandes ouvertures (24) formées dans les côtés des cavités, en communication avec les cavités internes. De préférence, la composition déshydratante est un halogénure alcalin ou alcalino-terreux. Plus avantageusement, cette composition déshydratante est sélectionnée dans le groupe comprenant du chlorure de lithium, du chlorure de calcium et du chlorure de magnésium. Dans des modes de réalisation spécifiques, le filtre déshydratant peut être combiné avec un écran de lampe (204, 304) ou avec une douille de lampe (400). Cette invention concerne également un procédé de déshydratation de l'air pénétrant dans une ouverture de ventilation (9) située dans un boîtier de lampe d'un véhicule, à l'aide de cet appareil inventif.
