2025352 9008098 PCTABS00001 A beverage dispensing spigot is provided that allows for the smooth dispensing of carbonated beverages such as beer. A spigot body (32) is mounted to a beverage container's neck (24) and employs a barrel valve closure member (92) that seals the pressurized container by use of an O-ring (98). The barrel member is movable via variably pitched slots (60, 62) interacting with the cam pins (110, 112) and sleeve (104). Upon the opening of the spigot from its closed positions, first a pressure release port (41) is exposed to slowly release gas within the container without forcibly projecting the container contents. Next, the barrel member is brought into communication with the pouring spout (38) to allow the beverage to be dispensed, while air is vented into the container through vent (36) to allow the beverage to be smoothly dispensed by avoiding a blocking vacuum.
