Abstract of the Disclosure Method and apparatus of forming glass fibers in which filaments are attenuated through bushing tips in a bushing containing molten glass. Both the environment surrounding and below the bushing and elements dis- posed in the fiber forming region adjacent the bushing are cooled by passing a cooling fluid through a pair of cooling manifolds located on side partitions adjacent the bushing. The manifolds are below the bush- ing on the partitions, and have inlet sections and outlet sections for flowing fluid in opposite directions. The manifolds are connected to the elements in fluid transfer relation, and fluid is passed from the mani- folds through the elements in a first direction to thereby cool the ele- ments. Fluid from the elements is returned to said manifolds, and flows through the manifolds in the opposite direction to thereby cool the environment.
