A method and apparatus for measuring strain on a surface of a substrate (140) utilizes a substrate surface coated with at least one coating layer (145). The coating layer (145) provides both luminescence and photoelasticity. The coating layer (145) is illuminated with excitation light (110), wherein longer wavelength light is emitted having a polarization dependent upon stress or strain in the coating. At least one characteristic of the emitted light is measured, and strain (if present) on the substrate (140) is determined from the measured characteristic.
L'invention concerne un procédé et un appareil permettant de mesurer des contraintes s'exerçant à la surface d'un substrat (140). Ce procédé consiste : à fournir une surface de substrat sur laquelle a été appliquée au moins une couche de revêtement (145), cette couche de revêtement (145) étant à la fois luminescente et photoélastique ; à illuminer ladite couche de revêtement (145) au moyen d'une lumière d'excitation (110), la couche de revêtement émettant une lumière de longueur d'onde plus longue dont la polarisation dépend des tensions ou contraintes auxquelles elle est soumise ; à mesurer au moins une caractéristique de la lumière émise et, à partir de cette caractéristique, à déterminer les (éventuelles) contraintes s'exerçant à la surface dudit substrat (140).
