Heat in a stream (5) of combustion products obtained from a glassmelting furnace (3) heated by oxy-fuel combustion is passed to incoming glassmaking materials (9) in a heat exchanger (7) without requiring reduction of the temperature of the stream yet without causing softening of the glassmaking material. Glassmaking material in the heat exchanger (7) is separated from the stream of combustion products by a barrier (13).
