ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method of controlling heat-softened glass in a fiber forming process includes flowing streams of the glass from orifices in a surface, feeding combustible carbonaceous material to a region in the vicinity of the surface and burning the carbonaceous material in the region under conditions providing a luminous flame yielding particles of carbon, which are deposited on the surface to counteract wetting of the surface by the glass.
