Method and apparatus for data packet communications in a communication system. Packets are received at a gateway having an Internet Protocol (IP) destination address and Network Access Identifier (NAI). The gateway maps the received NAI to a local network, such as supported by a Network Address Translator (NAT). The gateway then converts the destination address to a NAT address of the local network. The gateway also adds a port number that allows the NAT to identify the target recipient. The mapping within the gateway is created and maintained as Mobile Stations send registration requests upon arrival within a local network. In one embodiment, the registration request is a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) registration.
La présente invention concerne un procédé et un appareil pour les communications de paquets de données dans un système de communications. Les paquets sont reçus à une passerelle comportant une adresse de destination selon le protocole IP (Internet Protocol) et un identificateur NAI d'accès au réseau (Network Access Identifier). La passerelle projette le NAI reçu sur un réseau local d'un type s'appuyant sur un traducteur NAT d'adresse réseau (Network Address Translator). La passerelle convertit alors l'adresse de destination en une adresse NAT du réseau local. La passerelle ajoute également un numéro de port permettant au NAT d'identifier le destinataire désigné. La projection à l'intérieur de la passerelle est créée et tenue à jour au fur et à mesure que les stations mobiles envoient des demandes d'enregistrement à l'arrivée dans un réseau local. Selon un mode de réalisation, la demande d'enregistrement est un enregistrement SIP de protocole d'initialisation de session (Session Initiation Protocol).
