ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A fibrous product of the general type of a predeter- mined or dual density mat or the like is produce by splitting a body of generally loose mat, conveyed in a longitudinal direc- tion, so as to obtain two strata both of which remain unitary with the mat portion located ahead of the point of splitting. At least one of the strata is subjected to a treatment such as compression to compact fibers therein. The strata are then deposited back on each other and eventually cured to obtain a dual or multiple density final product. The invention results in a space saving arrangement. The apparatus of the invention can be used in existing glass fiber mat producing lines.
