ABSTRACT Low molecular weight hydrocarbons are removed from air by preheating the air and then passing the preheated air through a heated catalytic bed comprising a mixture of platinized heat-conductive pellets and metal turnings. The turnings contribute to the structural rigidity and the uniform heating of the bed, as well as reducing the energy consumption required to maintain the bed at the desired temperature.
