In stunning of slaughter animals by means of a box stunning apparatus with stunning atmosphere, boxes (1, l a, l b, l c, l d) are conveyed around after one another to various stop positions by means of a transport system (11, 12). Animals to be stunned are driven forwards in a driveway (2) and into an entrance area (3). The animals in the entrance area are separated from other animals after a group of animals has passed into the area. The group is driven into an empty box (1) that is brought to a halt in the first stop position at the entrance area. The box is then conveyed into the stunning atmosphere. After the animals have been in the atmosphere the box is conveyed out of the atmosphere and is brought to a stop at an emptying area (13) to empty the box of stunned animals. The present method comprises the steps of: measuring a time period comprising a separation time that elapses from a first state, at which the animals pass or are allowed to pass into the entrance area (3), and to a second state occurring during the period from the time when a group of animals has passed into the entrance area to the time when the group has been driven into the box or the filled box is ready for transport, calculation of a desired box transport time to a third state, at which the filled box has been lowered into the atmosphere and a certain event occurs, which calculation is performed on the basis of the time period measured, and controlling the transport system with a view to obtaining the desired box transport time to the third state. The method makes it possible to achieve a more optimum stunning process and operation of the apparatus compared with current practice, which employs fixed time intervals and box transport time. Operations are more stable, and CO2 consumption is reduced.
Dans un procédé visant à étourdir des animaux de boucherie au moyen d'un dispositif d'étourdissement comportant des caisses baignant dans une atmosphère d'étourdissement, un système de transport (11, 12) déplace successivement en boucle des caisses (1, 1a, 1b, 1c, 1d) jusqu'à diverses positions d'arrêt. Les animaux à étourdir sont amenés dans une allée (2) et dans une zone d'entrée (3). Le groupe d'animaux ayant passé dans la zone d'entrée est séparé des autres animaux. Il est amené dans une caisse vide (1) qui est arrêtée à la première position d'arrêt, dans la zone d'entrée. La caisse est ensuite transportée dans l'atmosphère d'étourdissement. Après que les animaux ont été en contact avec cette atmosphère, la caisse est transportée hors de celle-ci et s'arrête dans une zone de déchargement (13) où la caisse est vidée des animaux étourdis. Le procédé comporte les étapes consistant à : mesurer une durée comprenant un temps de séparation s'écoulant depuis un premier stade, où les animaux passent ou sont autorisés à passer dans la zone d'entrée (3), et un deuxième stade commençant lorsqu'un groupe d'animaux passe dans la zone d'entrée et se terminant lorsque le groupe a été amené dans la caisse, ou lorsque la caisse remplie est prête à être transportée ; calculer un temps de transport voulu de caisse jusqu'à un troisième stade, où la caisse remplie a été immergée dans l'atmosphère et un certain événement se produit, ce calcul étant effectué sur la base de la durée mesurée ; et commander le système de transport en vue d'obtenir le temps de transport de caisse voulu pour atteindre le troisième stade. Ce procédé permet de mettre en oeuvre un procédé et un dispositif d'étourdissement optimaux par rapport aux techniques actuelles, qui utilisent des intervalles de temps et un temps de transport de caisse fixes. Les opérations sont plus stables et la consommation de CO¿2? est réduite.
