A method for preventing early recurrence of atrial fibrillation by pacing a heart in AAI mode at a rate faster than the intrinsic rate for a selected period of time immediately after delivering therapy to terminate the fibrillation. Ventricular backup pacing in VVI mode may also be provided during the atrial pacing.

L'invention concerne un procédé permettant d'empêcher la récidive précoce d'une fibrillation auriculaire, par stimulation d'un coeur selon le mode AAI (stimulation auriculaire inhibée), à une vitesse plus rapide que la vitesse intrinsèque, pour une période de temps sélectionnée, immédiatement après l'administration d'une thérapie destinée à mettre un terme à la fibrillation. Une stimulation de secours de type ventriculaire en mode VVI (stimulation ventriculaire inhibée) peut également être effectuée lors de la stimulation auriculaire.
