The method according to the invention consists in feeding fibers on a carding machine over a limited width thereof, in superposing the card web in at least ten layers and in needling the superposed layers. The superposition is preferably obtained by winding over a cylindrical drum. The shaped non-woven obtained according to the invention has a thickness gradually decreasing towards its selvedges. The obtained strip having, in cross-section, an asymmetrical shape by longitudinal cutting, for example along the median axis, and optionally two longitudinal cuttings on the selvedge side.
