L'invention concerne un procédé de fabrication de fils de matière thermoplastique coupés, notamment de fils de verre coupés, dans lequel on coupe les fils de matière thermoplastique dans une zone où au moins une roue enclume et une roue porte-lames, simultanément en rotation, sont en contact. Selon l'invention, on effectue un usinage d'au moins une partie de la surface périphérique de ladite roue enclume en rotation et au contact de la roue porte-lames, de manière à rattraper son usure. Application à la fabrication de fils de verre coupés directement sous filière.
