The present invention involves a user agent (100) requesting a cookie- associated resource over Internet from a content provider (200) on behalf of a user. In response thereto, the content provider (200) transmits a privacy policy file, describing the content provider~s policy regarding usage of cookies and privacy data in connection with the resource, to the user agent (100). The agent (100) then generates a cookie receipt specifying whether the user accepts the policy and, thus, accepts that the content provider sets a cookie on the user equipment (300). The receipt is transmitted to the content provider (200), e.g. in the HTTP header of a get resource message. In case of a positive receipt, the content provider (200) provides the requested resource and sets the cookie. If a negative receipt, a cookie-less version of the resource if provided to the user equipment (300).
La présente invention concerne un agent d'utilisateur (100) demandant une ressource associée à un témoin sur Internet à partir d'un fournisseur de contenu (200) pour le compte d'un utilisateur. En réponse, le fournisseur de contenu (200) transmet à l'agent d'utilisateur (100) un fichier de politique de confidentialité décrivant la politique du fournisseur de contenu en ce qui concerne l'utilisation de témoins et de données confidentielles en rapport avec la ressource. Ledit agent (100) produit alors un accusé de réception spécifiant si l'utilisateur accepte cette politique et, donc, s'il accepte que le fournisseur de contenu installe un témoin sur l'équipement utilisateur (300). L'accusé de réception est transmis au fournisseur de contenu (200), par exemple, dans l'en-tête HTTP d'un message d'obtention de ressource. Dans le cas d'un accusé de réception positif, le fournisseur de contenu (200) fournit la ressource demandée et installe le témoin. Dans le cas d'un accusé de réception négatif, une version sans témoin de la ressource est fournie à l'équipement utilisateur (300).
