A process for the production of optically active .beta.-hydroxy esters represented by the general formula (|||): (|||) [wherein R1 is optionally substituted hydrocarbyl or the like; R2 is different from R1 and represents a nitrogenous heterocyclic group represented by the general formula (V) or the like: (V) (wherein the ring may be substituted); R3 is optionally substituted hydrocarbyl or the like; R4 and R5 may be the same or different from each other and are each hydrogen, halogeno, or the like; and * represents an asymmetric center], characterized by reacting a compound represented by the general formula (|): (|) with a compound represented by the general formula (||): (||) [wherein X is halogeno] in the presence of a cinchona alkaloid or the like.

L'invention concerne un procédé permettant de produire des .beta.-hydroxy-esters optiquement actifs représentés par la formule générale (III); [dans cette formule, R?1 ¿représente un hydrocarbyle éventuellement substitué, ou un composant analogue; R?2¿ est différent de R?1¿ et représente un groupe hétérocyclique azoté représenté par la formule générale (V), ou un groupe analogue, (dans cette formule, le noyau peut être substitué); R3 représente un hydrocarbyle éventuellement substitué, ou un composant analogue; R4 et R5 peuvent être identiques ou différents l'un de l'autre et représentent indépendamment l'un de l'autre, l'hydrogène, l'halogène, ou un corps analogue; et * représente un centre asymétrique].
