- 14 - Abstract This invention relates to a method for the production of cystine from cysteine. Commercially viable prior art methods result in low yields unless a catalyst is used. In this invention, any aqueous solution containing cysteine, obtained by the enzymatic method or fermentation method, is oxidised in the presence of dimethyl sulfoxide to produce cystine in high yields.
